Notts County Progression Top Of The List For Manager Shaun Derry

8 August 2014

Ahead of Notts County’s Sky Bet League 1 opener with Preston North End, manager Shaun Derry has set his sights on progression in 2014.15.

After the close shave with relegation last term, a lot of restructuring has taken place during the summer with 14 players arriving at Meadow Lane.

Derry wants to see improvements beginning with the curtain-raiser at Deepdale and hopes that the Magpies can cause a few surprises this season.

“I do want people to just take a step back and look where the club’s been and look where we’ve been in this last six or seven months,” he told the press.

“I’m hoping they’ll join me by saying ‘let’s progress’, let’s have a bit of progression at the club and more importantly some stability.

“This club can’t continuously change managers the way it has done and whether it’s me stood in the dugout or somebody else, it needs to be someone here for the long run.

“I’m hoping that’s going to be me but along the way, you can’t go from where we were last year to missing six or seven rungs on the ladder.

“It needs to be a progression and that’s what I’m hoping for this year.”

He added: “I’ve been involved in teams that haven’t even been in the bookies top 10 but they’re one-offs.

“You never know but what we will do is we’ll absolutely make sure that we’re competitive and if we are against the bigger sides then there’s a chance.

“I know what this stadium can bring when it’s rocking, like it has been in the past six months for me and Greg [Abbott].

“I know if we hit the ground running then, it’s funny, when you start the season doing well and just that bandwagon starts rolling, you can have a great season and I hope that’s the case.”
