Nicky Wroe Targets An Upset When Notts County Face His Former Club Preston North End

8 August 2014

Nicky Wroe will face his former club Preston North End in his first competitive game as a Notts County player.

Wroe signed for the Magpies in the summer but will make a quick return to Deepdale this weekend for the 2014.15 Sky Bet League 1 opener.

Sky Bet see Notts as big outsiders on Saturday afternoon and have priced Shaun Derry’s side at 4/1 to leave Preston with three points.

As the perceived underdogs, Wroe is determined to kick-off the new season with a victory against his old teammates and prove the doubters wrong.

“If you look at the table, you’d think that they are going to be up there but that’s added motivation for the boys,” he told Magpie Player.

“When people are writing you off, it sometimes drives you on and gets more out of people.

“Everybody’s been really focused, spirits are high in the camp and we’re looking forward to it.”

He continued: “You want to do well against your former clubs and it was one of the first fixtures that I looked for after signing for the club.

“Hopefully we can go there, put in a good performance and get the campaign off to the best possible start.

“It’s going to be a big test, they had a good finish and narrowly missed out on promotion, so they’re a team that we’ve got to pay a great deal of respect to.

“But, we can go there with no fear, it’s a new season, we’re a brand new group coming together and hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves.”
