Mike Edwards: Best I've Felt In Years

19 August 2014

Mike 'The Phoenix' Edwards has risen up again and returned to Meadow Lane after signing a short-term deal on Monday.

He will give Manager Shaun Derry an extra option in defence and also work on the fitness side of things as strength & conditioning coach.

Notts' new number 28 could feature tonight with central defender Haydn Hollis injuring his shoulder against Fleetwood Town.

He told Magpie Player how the move came about.

He said: "I've been training at Notts most of pre-season and Shaun and Greg have been superb and given me that opportunity.

"I've always been working towards on the educational side of things, with the fitness side of things and it's an area I'm looking to pursue.

"I've kept myself fit, played a couple of games elsewhere and it's the best I've felt in the last years.

"I couldn't give up the game after all the handwork I put in the previous year.

"I love the coaching side and fitness side and to have this opportunity on the door step, it's nice to come back here and give it a go.

"I helped Lee Taylor, shadowing him at the Fleetwood game and it was great to be at Meadow Lane and in that environment.

"It was great to see the fans and staff and my main focus will be on the coaching side, but that option is always there if needed. It's nice to get that side and help this honest set of lads.

"Saturday was tough to watch, but they are an honest bunch and I'm sure the lads will turn it around tonight."
