Fearless Notts County Target Exciting Cup Run Ahead Of Sheffield Wednesday Clash

12 August 2014

The Notts County squad have set their sights on an exciting Capital One Cup run and are aiming to continue a run of good performances against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Magpies have impressed in the last two fixtures, against Osasuna and Preston North End, and the County faithful have plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the season ahead.

Manager Shaun Derry is eager to continue the momentum against the Owls ahead of Notts’ first home league game of the Sky Bet League 1 campaign and wants his side to take the game to the Championship outfit.

“I made a point that I want us to go on runs and I look at the Osasuna game and I was really proud of that performance and we backed it up with a great performance on Saturday,” Derry told Magpie Player.

“I want us to do it again and I feel like a good cup run not only breeds confidence in the league, it sets out a little bit of excitement at the club.”

He added: “As much focus is going into this game as went into the Preston game, that’s for sure and I’m looking forward to it because Hillsborough’s a great place to go and play football.

“The guys who are playing, first and foremost I want them to look forward to it and do ourselves justice.

“I’ve said that I want us to be competitive this year and I want us to be competitive on a gamely basis and take into Saturday’s game a positive performance.

“I know that if we play to the best of ability, we can cause problems.

“It’s going to be a difficult night for us but I want that to drive us on.

“I don’t want us to go into our shell and become shrinking violets out there, I want us to bring the task on and do ourselves justice.

“If we do, then I think that we can bring something back.”
