Derry Expecting A Difficult Physical Battle

22 August 2014

Manager Shaun Derry is expecting another tough game this weekend as the Magpies make the short trip to Vale Park.

Notts will be looking to build on a fantastic away display at Preston's Deepdale on the opening day and their first win of the campaign last Tuesday against Colchester United.

The boss has also been boosted with positive injuries news and a new signing to add to his squad.

He told Magpie Player: "I'm always expecting more than we saw on Tuesday. I felt the intensity off the ball was what I expected and they showed that they had great desire to make it difficult at times and there will be the same again. We will be ready on Saturday.

"We will approach it the same way and we won't be making it easy for Port Vale.

"I'm expecting a very physical battle, a difficult game as they all will be in this competitive league.

"We dug in on Tuesday and we will have to do the same at the weekend."

The Magpies added strikers Shaun Harrad and Danny Haynes to training on Thursday and Derry believes both will be key to his squad.

He added: "Danny has come back with a real enthusiasm and it's great to have him back in training.

"He wants to play a part this season and he's a good player.

"Shaun has signed and he showed to me what his record suggests. He has around one in three in his career and I want as many goals in my squad.

"He's definitely the right character. He's a Nottingham lad which is great and this is his club.

"He's turned down bigger offers to come to us and he will involved on Saturday.

"We've got some more options added, but we are losing the suspended players, but all I want is that all the lads are fit ahead of a really difficult game."
