Youth Team Finish With A Win

14 April 2014

Notts County youth team ended their season on a high note with a 1-0 triumph over Hull City youth team.

The Magpies delivered a battling performance and clinched the points at Highfields thanks to Gino Kelleher’s first half finish.

Notts’ side included mainly first year scholars with the addition of two Under-16s, who gained a taster of youth team football.

Head of Academy coaching Andy McMillan was pleased to see his side round off a good season with a strong performance.

He said: “Hull were a strong team and included players who had been offered pro terms and second years that had been released but wanted to play in the game.

“It was tough but we played decent first half and we scored a good goal through Gino.

“In the second half, Hull pressed us quite a lot and tried to stop us playing out.

“They had a lot more of the ball but we organised the lads so they couldn’t play through us.

“It was a good all-round performance and everything that we’ve been trying to do throughout the season came into place.”

Look out for a round-up of the season with both McMillan and Academy manager Mick Leonard on Magpie Player soon.
