Shaun Derry’s Relationship With Notts County Fans Is One To Cherish

29 April 2014

“I find it hard to put into words what the fans here mean to me,” Notts County manager Shaun Derry revealed in an interview with #themag.

Derry has guided the Magpies to within touching distance of Sky Bet League 1 safety after a roller coaster five months in charge at Meadow Lane.

There have been some tough times along the way but every step of the way Notts fans have remained right behind their team - something which has not gone unnoticed by the management team.

“For however long I’m here at this football club – and I hope it’s a long time – these five months that I’ve been in charge will be forever engrained in the relationship that I’ve got with Notts County,” said Derry.

“There’s been some tough, tough times that we’ve been together in this short time and there’s been some great games as well.

“Through both feelings of euphoria and devastation, I just know that they’ve been right behind me and Greg and, as a pair, we’re absolutely grateful for the support that they’ve given us.

“Not just us but for the players as well, as they’ve made it easier for them to go out onto the pitch and put in performances.

“I say to the lads before every speech that they’re representing the football club and at the very, very core of this football club is the Notts County fans.

“They’ve been absolutely unbelievable from minute one when we walked through the gates.

“I remember the first game away at Hartlepool, the support was there and it’s just grown and grown and grown.”

Notts will look to finish off the job of staying up against Oldham Athletic on the final day at Boundary Park.
