Jimmy Spencer The Unsung Hero

3 April 2014

Skipper Alan Sheehan has labelled Jimmy Spencer Notts County’s unsung hero after a series of impressive performances up front.

Spencer has been a key figure for the Magpies following his return to the side, as his hold up play and physical presence has contributed to the big improvements at Meadow Lane.

Since partnering Ronan Murray in attack, the former Huddersfield Town striker's Irish teammate has tucked away five goals in just four matches and been shortlisted for the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month award.

Sheehan said: “I don’t think it’s fair to single out Ronan for the goals because of the way Jimmy Spencer has been playing.

“Ronan will be the first to admit that without Jimmy the goals wouldn’t be coming for him.

“He was named Man of the Match on Saturday and rightfully so, because he’s been excellent in the last couple of games.

“Like I’ve said to the boys, it’s only a couple of games and we all need to keep doing it until the end of the season.

“We’ve got six cup finals left and we need to get as many points as we can.

“The quicker that we get them, the quicker we’ll be safe.”
