Jimmy Spencer Shining At Notts County, Says Manager Shaun Derry

23 April 2014

Jimmy Spencer has proven to be a great signing for Notts County and his manager has encouraged him to keep up the good work.

Spencer has scored five goals in 11 appearances for the Magpies following his arrival from Huddersfield Town in the January transfer window, including a match-winning header against Crawley Town at the weekend.

It is the frontman’s all-round game that has really caught the attention of the County faithful, as his hold-up play and presence in attack has allowed others, such as Ronan Murray, Jack Grealish and Jamal Campbell-Ryce, to flourish in the Black and White stripes.

“He’s the platform for how we want to play and away at Ashton Gate he was absolutely brilliant on a great pitch,” said his boss, Shaun Derry.

“Then, here [at Meadow Lane], on an absolute mud bath, he holds the ball for us and gets us advanced up the field and enables others to come into play.

“I appreciate him and what kind of player he is, and so do the boys more importantly.

“He’s producing performances now week in, week out and fair play to him, because not many people took the chance on Jimmy.

“We actually put our cards on the table and said we fancied Jimmy.

“We were able to get him and he’s come here and produced the performances that I know he can do.”

Notts face an even bigger game on Saturday afternoon against Swindon Town at Meadow Lane (3pm kick-off).
