Points are the only thing that matter on Saturday – it’s as simple as that.
This is the determined message from the dressing room, delivered by captain Dean Leacock.
The squad has been hurt by the start to the season and they are hell-bent on putting a stop to an unimpressive run in the league.
It may be messy but that does not matter now, as the most important thing is to lift the Magpies off the foot of the Sky Bet League 1 table.
Leacock wants the home supporters to put their frustrations to one side and help the team to claim three points against Tranmere Rovers by turning out in force at Meadow Lane on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off)
"It's not about what's going on behind the scenes or what's happening with the gaffer and stuff, it's about the 11 that go on the pitch on a Saturday,” he told Magpie Player.
"We've got to go into Saturday and be ruthless, even if it's a horrible game we've got to do that because at the moment nothing's working.
"We've had a few harsh words with each other - words that were needed - and we're hoping that what's been said will make a difference on Saturday.
"We're the only ones that can change it and we just need the fans to stay with us because this is an important time for us.
"They don't want to see us in a relegation battle and nor do we want to be in one, I promise you that.
"If they stay with us, I can guarantee we'll put in a performance.
"It may not be the best footballing game but it will be a game that's full of heart and passion.
"We want to deliver a performance where the fans can be proud of us."
