Sheehan Upbeat Despite Defeat

29 September 2013

Left-back Alan Sheehan believes that the Magpies can take a lot of positives out of Saturday’s clash with Carlisle United, despite a 2-1 loss at Brunton Park.

Notts delivered arguably their best league showing of the campaign but a failure to convert a host of chances allowed the Cumbrians to steal maximum points.

Sheehan believes that if Notts produce more displays of that nature, they will soon climb the Sky Bet League 1 table.

“It’s hard to take but I think it was probably the best we’ve played all season,” he said.

“If it was 7-0 I don’t think anyone could’ve argued with it but we’ve got to take it on the chin and go again on Monday.

“The manager is working hard and everyone’s on board, and, look, the performance was not a bottom-four team performance.”

He continued: “The football that we played throughout the game was a pleasure to be involved in.

“Coming off the pitch, their manager said ‘it’s no consolation but you’ve absolutely battered us’.

“We’re disappointed about the result but I suppose we’re upbeat because things have clicked now.

“We were playing football the way it’s meant to be played and we just didn’t put the ball in the net but these things will come.

“I’m upbeat about the performance because we’re not a million miles away now and I think everybody can see that.”
