Hodge: A Valuable Lesson

11 September 2013

Development Squad coach Steve Hodge felt that the 5-0 defeat to Crewe Alexandra Development Squad provided a valuable test for the club's young players.

Crewe fielded a very strong side that included experienced players such as striker Nathan Ellington and midfield duo Anthony Grant and Byron Moore.

Notts' line-up, on the other hand, featured a host of young players, including a collection of youth team squad members.

Hodge told the official site: "We were very young and at times it did show, but I’m looking for players to cope with difficult situations.

“The lads left knowing the level they need to get to, because some of those players were on Crewe’s bench at the weekend, with others coming from Liverpool and Everton reserves.

“It’s about learning and improving and that’s why the development squad is so important.

“You want to play against good teams and players, because that will hopefully bring our good players along.

"We’ll continue with their development until they’re 18, 19 and 20 and if at 21 they’re not at the level of technical ability required then they’ll move on."
