A victory was a must against Burton Albion ahead of a 10-day break, according to first team manager Chris Kiwomya.
The Magpies have experienced a slow start to the Sky Bet League 1 campaign but spirits were lifted with a 1-0 triumph over Burton Albion in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.
Callum McGregor’s individual effort in the first half was enough to book Notts’ place in Round 2 of the tournament.
The team can now head into a difficult trip to MK Dons a week on Saturday with a positive mindset, as they search for their first three points of 2013.14.
He said: “I’m really happy that we got the win to go into the break.
“We needed it after the disappointing performance last week.
“We spoke about getting a clean sheet before the game and defending as a team.
“I thought we were really good in the first half and should have been one or two goals up.
“Burton are a good team and they’ve done well this season – both them and Fleetwood were banana skins and we’ve come through them.
“But, we need to get back to the league now and back doing well.”
