Youths Fail To Make Dominance Pay

7 October 2013

Notts County youth team were unable to take advantage of their first half dominance against Chesterfield youth team at the weekend.

As a result, the Spireites progressed into the second stage of the Youth Alliance Cup, leaving Notts to focus on the league campaign.

Head of Academy coaching took positives from the game, most notably the opening 45 minutes.

He told the official site: “It was incredibly frustrating because we had a passage of play for the opening 30 minutes where we were just knocking the ball about and I think they only entered our half twice in 45 minutes of football.

“It’s another defeat but another positive performance in terms of the way we’re trying to play football.

“But, winning becomes a habit and we need to start turning our performances into wins.”

He added: “We just need to keep working on playing out and giving the lads the confidence to do that.

“Nobody’s going to get on their back if they’re trying to do the right things.

“If we’re going to produce players that are good enough to play League 1 and higher, these players have to want the ball in tight situations, get on the ball and play.”

Notts fans have a great opportunity to watch the youth team in action next weekend against Scunthorpe United at Highfields. For fixture information, click here.
