Youngsters Will Do Us Proud

25 October 2013

First team manager Chris Kiwomya is considering throwing more of his younger players in at the deep end, as the Magpies look to get back to winning ways.

On the road, Notts have been beaten in back-to-back games and the team hope to bounce back with a fourth consecutive win at Meadow Lane.

In the absence of the suspended Joss Labadie, Greg Tempest came into the side against Gillingham in midweek.

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international took his chance and was one of the side’s key performers throughout the 90.

With more of the squad’s young talent champing at the bit, Kiwomya may be set to give them their chance in the upcoming matches.

“If we’re not winning it may have to get to the stage where we give these guys a chance,” he told the press.

“We have to win games and sometimes, as you can see with Greg Tempest coming in, these young guys have got confidence.

“I don’t know if I can keep going with that line and saying we need to be winning to put them in there.

“Maybe let’s throw them in there and see what they’ve got.

“I think they’ve got the right character and they won’t let us down – I know that.”

Kiwomya is hoping that the Notts supporters will turn out in force this Saturday against Preston, after a bumper home crowd turned out for the 4-0 triumph over Crewe Alexandra.

County have been in good form on their own patch in recent times and the manager hopes to see this continue with three points on Saturday.

He said: “If you’d have come to see us play at home in the last two games you would see that there is hope and there is consistency in the team.

“It’s just going away from home where we seem to give away those individual errors, which we’ve got to try and cut out and be more solid.

“We’ve got to be defenders – just defend and get it out of the areas and play at the right times.

“By the Coventry game it could look very different but we can’t rely on anyone else.”
