Striker Enoch Showunmi made his long-awaited footballing return, as he played the first 20 minutes in the development squad’s away victory over Stoke City on Wednesday.
The former Leeds United forward has been struggling with knee and back injuries since mid-August, but was delighted to pull on the Black and White stripes again.
Following the development squad’s 1-0 triumph at Stoke’s training ground, he expressed his determination to return to the senior squad as soon as possible.
He told the official site: “It’s good to get a little run out and hopefully I can get a bit more of that and then be involved in the first team.
“I’m feeling alright, I just need a bit more football now and a few more games and minutes under my belt, but it’s been a good run out.
“It’s down to the coaching staff and the medical team here, regarding time-scales, but hopefully sometime in the near future I will be back.”
Showunmi scored twice in the first two games against Sheffield United and Fleetwood Town, but was injured against Walsall back in August.
He has been busy in the gym and at training ground to get back up to full fitness.
He added: “It’s been a very frustrating time, because I started the season well, I was scoring goals and contributing to the team, but obviously this bad injury has knocked me back.
“I’m now looking to recapture that form and I’ve still got my individual goals, once I’m back in, those will be met."
