Notts County development squad’s win against Coventry City in the Barclay’s Premier League Under-21 Cup was fully deserved, says coach Steve Hodge.
Goals from Elliot Hodge and Adam Coombes saw the Magpies come from behind on Wednesday afternoon to book a third round tie with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Hodge felt that his side showed both sides to their game and is looking for more of the same in the next stage of the tournament.
“Against a good team with some good players, we more than matched them in the first half in terms of creativity,” he told the official site.
“The second half was a lot more feisty with lots of battles and obviously their big guy up front against our back two.
“We had one or two young players in our team and we had to dig in at the end.
“I thought Adam Coombes was brilliant in the second half and when he plays like that he’s a problem for anyone.
“He was backing into people, using his skill and he’s a superb finisher as the winning goal proved.
“Overall, I felt that we made it hard for them and the lads put a shift in.
“It’s a merited victory and I thought we were the better team.”
He added: “We’ve now got Wolves, who we played a week ago and got beat 4-1, so it’s a great challenge for us.
“It’s at our place and we’ll try to beat them or at least give them a good game this time.”
