Thrive On The Battle

26 November 2013

A big challenge lies ahead for Notts County and first team manager Shaun Derry wants his players to flourish in the face of adversity.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Play-Off contenders Bradford City, seven points separates Notts from 20th placed Stevenage, following defeats against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town.

Scorelines to one side, County have delivered much better performances in the past two fixtures and are showing signs that the corner is about to be turned.

Derry said: “We’re in a situation and I’ve been in situations lots of times during my career.

“I thrived on it and I want the players to thrive on it and I want them to really stand up and be counted.

“I want them to say ‘bring this challenge on’, because, I tell you what, when we come out of it at the end of the season we’ll look back on this and say ‘that was an experience and it stands me in good stead’.

“I want to say that as a new manager and say ‘you know what, that first four games was difficult’.

“It has been difficult but I’ve taken major positives out of the last two.”

Watch full pre-match build up with the manager’s press conference on Magpie Player.

Further coverage will be available in the Nottingham Post, Nottinghamshire Topper and as part of BBC Radio Nottingham’s pre-match show.
