Showunmi Targets Strong Finish

18 March 2013

Striker Enoch Showunmi wants to finish the season on a high note, following a mentally testing few months.

Showunmi has started only five league matches since signing a two-year deal at Meadow Lane in the summer.

However, the former Tranmere Rovers man has been named in the first 11 for the Magpies’ last two fixtures, against Preston North End and Scunthorpe United.

In Saturday’s Iron clash, Showunmi produced his best performance of the campaign and the powerful frontman is eager to keep delivering in the remaining seven fixtures.

“It was great, because it’s been a frustrating season for me personally,” he told Magpie Player.

“I obviously got my chance in the last couple of games and, on Tuesday, it was a case of getting my feet.

“I’ve always had belief in my ability and that I can perform in this league, because I’ve done it in the past.

“I’ve always said, you don’t get up to match fitness until you’ve played four or five games on the bounce.

“That hasn’t happened this season but hopefully I’ve done enough to keep playing for the rest of the season.

“Scunthorpe was my best performance [since arriving at the club] and I just want to finish off the season strongly and build for next season.”
