First team manager Chris Kiwomya wants the Magpies to entertain the club’s loyal fans this Saturday against Scunthorpe United.
Kiwomya has lifted the pressure on his players by putting a halt to talk of the top six, following the disappointing midweek defeat to Preston North End.
The result ended a seven-game unbeaten run and left County nine points adrift of the leading pack.
Instead, the boss now wants the squad to focus on providing a much better performance to lift the spirits of the home faithful.
He told Magpie Player: “When you talk about Play-Offs, Play-Offs, Play-Offs and you’re looking to see where you are in the league, you’re taking you’re eye off what you’re meant to be doing and that’s playing well and getting the points.
“I just want to get back to a good team performance and once we do that hopefully it will see us getting back to winning ways.
“If they do that in the next three or four games it’ll be interesting.
“Let’s not talk about the Play-Offs now, let’s just talk about playing well and getting the fans on the edge of their seats.
“Our supporters work hard and come down to watch us and they want to be entertained and see committed players.
“We hope that they’ll keep behind us and we’ll be doing our best to give 100 per cent commitment and try to take the club forward.”
This weekend’s visitors are currently one place above the npower League 1 relegation zone.
Kiwomya is expecting a whole-hearted performance from Brian Laws’ team but has every faith that his own squad can prevail.
"They're fighting for their lives so we can't take that for granted and we're expecting a difficult game,” he continued.
“I'm looking for a fully committed team to go out there and do their best to play well and get the points."
