Melvin Agrees Meadow Lane Deal

26 June 2013

First team manager Chris Kiwomya has added his first summer signing to the Notts County ranks with the capture of a highly rated youngster...

Midfielder Malcolm Melvin has joined up with the squad on a six-month contract, which will begin on 1 July 2013, after his scholarship with Premier League Aston Villa expires.

The Birmingham-born 18-year-old is a Scotland youth international, capped at under-17s, 18s and 19s.

Quick, strong and never one to back down from a challenge, his playing style resembles his boxing roots.

Melvin’s father, also named Malcolm, was a former professional boxer and challenged for the British and Commonwealth title.

The Magpies’ newest recruit also used to box at amateur level but opted to take the route of football with Villa, where he came through the ranks to perform in the under-18s and Barclays Premier Academy League.

Melvin is yet to make a professional appearance but is one to watch, having been highly recommended by chief scout Matt Alexander.

Look out for an interview with Melvin on Magpie Player shortly, in addition to reaction from Alexander and first team manager Chris Kiwomya.
