Boss Impressed After First Week

29 June 2013

First team manager Chris Kiwomya has been greatly impressed with the manner in which the squad has returned to pre-season training.

Notts kicked off the preparations for the 2013.14 campaign on Tuesday (25 June) and have been tested with and without the ball.

Results suggest that the players have kept themselves in top shape during the summer and it looks set to bode well for the forthcoming fixtures.

Kiwomya told Magpie Player: "It’s been very good and the lads have worked very hard and have come back looking extremely fit.

“The balls have come out early, not only because of the game next week but because I like to see them incorporated, even as early as the first day.

“There’s a bit of rustiness but the lads are just eager to get out onto the field and play and they’ve done very well.”

Kiwomya has added one new player to his squad this week in the form of promising Aston Villa youngster Malcolm Melvin but he hopes to have more arrivals after the weekend.

“The squad’s still small at the moment with a lot of development players in there,” he added.

“Hopefully in the next week we’ll be able to add three or four new faces to the squad, which will improve us very much.

“We’re close to one or two players so hopefully we should have something more concrete on a striker and other players coming to the club.

“I know the fans are waiting to see them and behind the scenes we’ve been working very hard so we hope to have something to show for it.”

County are in action for the first time on Tuesday afternoon, when they take on Steaua Bucharest in a behind-closed-doors friendly at St George’s Park.
