Armed Forces Day Football

3 June 2013

All star cast lined up for Armed Forces Day football match...

A number of well known ex-professional players have confirmed their place in the special football match taking place next month to commemorate the Armed Forces Day national event in Nottingham on Saturday 29 June.

A special Combined Services team (Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force) will play against ‘Nottingham All Stars’ at Hucknall Town Football Club on Thursday 27th June, kick-off at 7.00pm.

Confirmed players for the Nottingham All Stars team include former Magpies Jason Lee, Lawrie Dudfield and Nigel Jemson.

Tickets for the game are £5 and can be purchased from Hucknall Town Football Club and the ticket offices and nine City Council run Leisure Centres. All locations will be operating a cash only ticketing system for this match.

Children aged 4 and under are FREE when accompanied by a full paying adult (1 child aged 4 or under per full paying adult).

The match is being organised by Nottingham City Council in conjunction with Hucknall Town FC as part of county-wide celebrations to mark the Armed Forces Day national event taking place on Saturday 29 June. These include a flag raising event (Monday 24 June) and Uniform to Work Day (Wednesday 26 June) which serves to highlight the role of the Reservists.

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Tourism at Nottingham City Council said: “Nottingham is incredibly honoured to host the 2013 Armed Forces Day national celebrations, and this one-off football match will be a fantastic event for all to enjoy.”

Team Chairman, Lt Col (Ret’d) Mick Cotton said: “Football is the most widely enjoyed game in the military. It is the ‘servicemen’s sport’. The whole team is looking forward to playing against some of Nottingham’s well known sporting heroes. It is a privilege not only to be invited to play but also to be a part of our Armed Forces Day celebrations. We have some very experienced players and I am certain it will be a hard fought match.”
