Notts County youth team came through a physical battle to claim their second win of pre-season against Winslow on Wednesday evening.
An own goal and another finish from Elliott Brown gave the young Magpies a 2-1 win against a side that included several experienced players as old as 26.
Head of academy coaching Andy McMillan was delighted with the way that his under-18 side coped against an older outfit and bounced back from a heavy defeat to Sheffield United.
“The Sheffield United game was disappointing but to be fair the better team won,” he told Magpie Player.
“We’ve gone to Winslow – a pretty long trek to Buckinghamshire – and did alright.
“We actually thought they were an under-18 team but as it turned out they were a men’s team!
“It was good in terms of a physical battle for the boys, they stood up and got counted and I was pleased with them.
“It was a good win but much better in the second half, where we kept the ball and tried to move it.
“They got a bit tired so fitness-wise we were on top and it was a comfortable 2-1 win.”
