Boss Impressed By Youngsters

8 July 2013

The squad’s younger players impressed first team manager Chris Kiwomya in the 4-1 triumph over Tervarit Dream Team.

Kiwomya fielded much less experienced side than the one that lined up against Kemi Kings, as he rested a number of his key players ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Finnish top-flight outfit JJK Jyväskylä.

Making the most of their chance to impress, the likes of Romello Nangle, Tyrell Waite, Greg Tempest, Curtis Thompson and Haydn Hollis all delivered encouraging displays.

Nangle found the net with a stunning long-range effort and Waite got his name on the scoresheet with a composed finish.

Kiwomya hopes to see more of the same, as the clock ticks down to the League 1 campaign opener with Sheffield United on 2 August.

He told Magpie Player: “Over the last few days we’ve been speaking to them a lot and I think a lot of the senior pros have helped with their education.

“We’ve told them what more is expected of them and I think you could see that with Tyrell and Romello.

“They’ve scored a good goal each and they’ve played well.

“Overall I’m pleased with the young players and they’ve got something that they can build on.

“It was a good workout for the lads, it was a different team with a lot of players not knowing each other but I thought it went well.”
