Boss: A Good Workout

3 July 2013

First team manager Chris Kiwomya was happy with the workout that his squad received in Tuesday afternoon’s pre-season opener.

Notts fielded two different 11s either side of the break in the team’s first pre-season encounter.

Although beaten 2-0 by Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest, Kiwomya was pleased with what he saw.

“It was all about a workout for the lads and they got that with Steaua Bucharest, who are a very good team playing in the Champions League,” he told Magpie Player.

“We did some good things in the game and we were unlucky because we got into some good positions, particularly in the second half.

“The main thing is the fitness and the lads getting a feel of the ball and the pitch and to get their distances right.

“We’re pleased because we came through with some good performances.”

Kiwomya secured the services of key duo Joss Labadie and Alan Sheehan earlier this week, as well as recruited highly rated full-back Mustapha Dumbuya.

Although the squad is away in Finland for the next nine days, the manager hopes to have more new arrivals ahead of the return flight to England.

“We’re still waiting to tie up one or two deals, especially on the striker front,” he continued.

“We will hopefully have them done before we come back.”
