Pitch Provisionally Passed Fit

19 January 2013

The Meadow Lane pitch has provisionally been passed fit ahead of Saturday's game against Sheffield United...

Notts County’s npower League 1 game against Sheffield United has been given the provisional go ahead after a pitch inspection on Saturday morning, although match referee Mark Haywood wants to inspect the playing surface further once the frost covers have been removed.

The frost covers have been in place on the Meadow Lane pitch since late last week in a bid to stave off adverse weather conditions that have swept across Britain and have held the cold at bay sufficiently for the playing surface to initially be passed fit for Saturday’s game.

A first pitch inspection, conducted by local referee Nigel Smith on Friday afternoon, had deemed the playing surface fit for action, but the club had organised a further review for 9:30am on Saturday due to the forecast of further overnight snow.

However, efforts to clear the snow, helped by volunteers from club sponsors On-Call Recruitment, alongside members of the Notts County Youth Team’s players and coaching staff, office staff and groundstaff, have succeeded in keeping the ice and snow at bay and the club are now hoping that the pitch gets the final go ahead once the covers have been completely removed.

Further updates will follow here on the official website as soon as we have them…
