Kimberley Girls Under-13s have the chance to represent Notts County at Wembley, following a recent tournament win.
At the back end of 2012, 10 Nottinghamshire secondary schools battled it out in the local competition stage of the Under-13s npower Football League Girls Cup.
Co-ordinated by the club’s Football in the Community programme, teams from George Spencer, Carlton le Willows, Bramcote Park, Ashfield, West Bridgford, South Wolds, Samworth, Kimberley, Joseph Whitaker and The Grove competed for the right to represent Notts County in the Area Final of the competition.
Following a penalty shoot-out victory over George Spencer in the final, Kimberley moved on to the next stage.
FITC Coach and Derby County Ladies player Lauren Creswell said: “All the teams put in a valiant effort throughout the tournament.
“Some of the players showed a promise of talent that will secure the future of women’s football.”
Wearing the black and white stripes of Notts County, Kimberley will now go on to face Doncaster Rover, Chesterfield, Derby County, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, Rotherham, Scunthorpe United, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, in the Area Final, which will take place during the week commencing 14 January.
Should they be successful, they will face the challenge of a Regional Final the following month that will determine which sides will take part in the Grand Final at Wembley in April, prior to the final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
