Saturday's npower League 1 game against Sheffield United is set to go ahead as planned...

Notts County can confirm that, following a review of conditions in conjunction with match referee Mark Haywood, Saturday’s npower League 1 game against Sheffield United will go ahead as planned.

Frost covers have been in place on the Meadow Lane pitch since late last week in a bid to stave off adverse weather conditions that have swept across Britain and have held the cold at bay sufficiently for the playing surface to be passed fit for Saturday’s game.

An initial pitch inspection, conducted by local referee Nigel Smith on Friday afternoon, had deemed the playing surface fit for action, but the club had organised a further review for 9:30am on Saturday due to the forecast of further overnight snow.

However, efforts to clear the snow, helped by supporters, volunteers from club sponsors On-Call Recruitment, alongside members of the Notts County Youth Team’s players and coaching staff, office staff and groundstaff, have succeeded in keeping the ice and snow at bay. The club would like to thank everyone for their efforts.

After initially passing the pitch fit in the morning, the match referee wanted a further inspection once the frost covers had been removed and was then happy to confirm that the match will definitely go ahead as planned.
