Student supporter James Constantine brings us his latest thoughts on all things Notts County...
On a chilly night in Nottingham, no one could have left Meadow Lane warmer than the 5,500 Notts fans that were treated to a goal fest which saw a much deserved brace for Francois Zoko and a great result for Notts.
From the brisk winds of University Park onto the 34 bus and down Iremonger Road, I had a sense of optimism that Chris Kiwomya could gain his first win in charge. After a slow start, Schumacher’s blazing strike stunned many with Notts not achieving their attacking and fluent passing game which saw them boxed in their own half.
Strikes from Judge and Cofie were well held and Notts looked mightily frustrated. A half time tea in the Kop warmed the soul and that pre-match sense of optimism reignited itself when Zoko strode onto the pitch. Surely there must be more goals.
Notts went far more direct and attacking in the second half and a three-goal flurry in just seven minutes saw the Meadow Lane decibel level shoot through the roof. All credit to the Bury fans who kept singing, but it was in vain as Campbell-Ryce sealed a rather assured win against a struggling Bury outfit.
Notts stayed on strongly and won the second half 4-0, something Kiwomya must have been very pleased about. Less than 24 hours later and Kiwomya has even more to be pleased about having been placed in permanent charge till the end of the season, something the fans are very pleased about.
With Notts sitting 8 points outside of the play-offs with 13 games to go, League One remains a completely open affair. Notts have nothing to lose now as they seek to kick on and follow up Friday nights much sought after win with another three points against Ronnie Moore’s Tranmere.
Unfortunately the student budget won’t stretch to such a journey north. It will however see me back at the lane both next Saturday and Wednesday which looks sure to be a season defining period if Notts can pick up maximum points.
Well done to Chris Kiwomya and Notts and let us hope they can follow up on Tuesday night!
