Tough Choices Await For The Manager

8 August 2013

First team manager Chris Kiwomya has a number of difficult choices to make ahead of the weekend’s Sky Bet League 1 encounter with Peterborough United.

Kiwomya made a series of changes to his side for the Capital One Cup Round 1 encounter with Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night and the players introduced took their chance.

Included were two youngsters, Northern Ireland Under-21 international Greg Tempest and Callum McGregor, who had signed on loan from Celtic just hours before kick-off.

Tempest made his first full competitive 90-minute appearance for Notts in the 3-2 victory and delivered an impressive all-round showing.

McGregor, another contender for Man of the Match, made his professional debut in style with a goal and an assist.

“I’m very pleased with those two players, they’re young players and looking at it you’d have thought they’d played 150 games each,” said Kiwomya.

“They were so composed and landed on the ball, they never shied away from the ball and made a big contribution to the team.”

Kiwomya also has a selection headache at the back, though not for the same reasons.

Following Manny Smith’s dismissal for two cautions, he will miss the Posh fixture, along with centre-backs Gary Liddle (suspended) and Haydn Hollis (knee injury).

This leaves the manager with just one recognised centre-back – skipper Dean Leacock – for the weekend’s game.

He said: “We haven’t got the biggest squad but we’ll manage and we’ll put a team out there on Saturday that can hopefully do us proud again.

“We want to get a strong team out, especially against Peterborough, who are playing very well at this moment in time.

“If we can recover properly and get a good team out there, we’ll be able to give them a good test.”
