14 August 2013

Notts County development squad were beaten 2-1 by Sheffield Wednesday development squad on Wednesday afternoon.

The Magpies delivered an encouraging performance that could easily have seen them leave the Owls' training facility victorious.

Romello Nangle put Notts in front, following an outstanding 40-yard pass by Kyle Dixon.

One-on-one with the goalkeeper, Nangle opened up his body to find the top corner from just inside the area.

The hosts levelled shortly after but County came close to restoring the deficit ahead of the interval.

Nangle had a stern hit parried clear and Gary Liddle, who featured to keep up match sharpness during his three-game suspension, headed over from a Dixon corner.

A trialist frontman forced another impressive save out of the Wednesday stopper following the break but it was the home side that went on to add a decisive second.

Late into the match, the Notts backline struggled to clear and, as a result, were punished with a strike inside the left-hand post.

Malachi Lavelle-Moore had a fine opportunity to make it 2-2 in the dying stages, following his introduction off the bench.

Fabian Spiess had picked out Nangle on the wing with a quick punt upfield and the youth team graduate squared to Lavelle-Moore, who shifted onto his left foot to get away from his marker before striking high of the top-left corner.
