Punish Them On The Wings

23 August 2013

Striker Enoch Showunmi believes that the Magpies can punish any team in Sky Bet League 1 if they continue to make the most of the team's ability on the wings.

In the second half of last weekend's Banks's Stadium encounter with Walsall, Notts put the wide areas to great use and gained a point through Yoann Arquin's 74th minute header.

The Saddlers struggled to cope with County's flank-based attacks for large periods.

6ft 5ins Showunmi hopes that the team can take that approach into the weekend's clash with Stevenage at Meadow Lane (3pm kick-off), as he aims to build on his two goals so far this term.

"Some of the balls that were delivered against Walsall were a striker's dream so long may it continue," he told Magpie Player.

"If you look at the squad in the wide areas and we've got some great players that are able to put in great deliveries.

"It's not just Belly, it's Callum [McGregor] that's come in, Sheez (Alan Sheehan) puts in great balls, and there's Jamal [Campbell-Ryce] and Muzza (Mustapha Dumbuya) as well.

"You're looking at a squad of players that are able to put in great balls and the strikers here are looking forward to making the most of the chances that we can create."

Showunmi is expecting a battle against Boro but has every belief that Notts have the flexibility to cope with whatever Graham Westley's men throw at them.

"Under the manager they have now, I think it will be a physical game and I'm sure the boys can adapt," said the number nine.

" I think if you look at our strengths, we can mix it up, we can play football and dig in for a battle.

"If the game turns out to be a football game we can play that way and if it turns out to be a battle the boys are well equipped to deal with that."
