McGregor’s Immediate Impact

8 August 2013

Just hours after his loan from Celtic was finalised, Notts County’s newest addition delivered an excellent debut performance to help the Magpies knock Fleetwood Town out of the Capital One Cup.

McGregor, 20, set up Enoch Showunmi’s equalising goal – a thumping header made possible by a sensational cross from the left wing.

Then, in the second half, the Scotsman added a goal of his own, a long-range finish into the top-left corner.

McGregor’s performance certainly won over the home supporters, who gave him a standing ovation when he was withdrawn from the action.

The midfielder aims to follow up an impressive senior debut with more top showings in the black and white stripes.

In his post-match interview, he said: “It was a great win first of all, the lads were excellent and dug in really well at the end with 10 men.

“Personally, it was great to get a goal and set up the first goal so I’m absolutely delighted.

“It’s why I’m there in the team, the gaffer wants me to go and make things happen and get on the ball.

“I want to get games, play real football and hopefully I can score a few more goals like that.

“Debuts are always like that, you want to get on the ball and show the fans what you can do.

“I’ll just keep that going with the work ethic, keep building myself up and hopefully deliver more performances like that.”
