Magpies Aim To Do A Bradford

7 August 2013

First team manager Chris Kiwomya is determined to get his first ever League Cup campaign as manager off to a flier this evening against Fleetwood Town.

The Magpies face the Sky Bet League 2 promotion candidates at Meadow Lane (7.45pm kick-off) in Round 1 of the Capital One Cup.

Last season’s Round 1 opponents Bradford City went on to reach the Final of the tournament and Kiwomya believes that the Bantams’ run has rejuvenated the competition.

The boss wants his players to take inspiration from the accomplishment and is eager for them to create some Cup excitement for the County fans in 2013.14.

"You never know how far you can go and it would be great if we can get through this round and get a home draw against a Premier League team,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

"It would be great for the fans and for the club.

"It's my first league cup as a manager so I want to do well but I want to do well in everything we take part in as a club.

"I said that to the players, because like Bradford City you never know where you might end up.

"You could get a draw where you're getting all the lower-league teams and you get a Premier League side in the Semi-Final and they get a player sent off after 14 minutes on the day and you end up going through.

"We should be up for the game and I'm looking for a good team performance.”
