First team manager Chris Kiwomya felt that the Magpies deserved more from Saturday's meeting with Stevenage.
A last-gasp winner from James Dunne saw Boro claim all three points at Meadow Lane.
Notts had looked dangerous in the wide areas but a failure to convert proved costly.
Kiwomya told the press: "We didn't deserve to get beat, there was nothing in the teams.
"I think we threatened a lot and put good balls into the box, but we didn't quite get the edge on it.
"To get like that was disappointing because we were trying to win the game."
He continued: "They're a big, difficult team to play against and if you look at the size of their team compared to us, I thought we competed with them well.
"I thought we worked hard against them but it was just that finishing touch in the box."
