Bitter-Sweet For Lidds

25 August 2013

Defender Gary Liddle's return to action provided a day of mixed emotions.

Liddle was delighted to be named in the starting 11 following the completion of a three-game ban, which saw him make his first appearance since the opening day clash with Sheffield United.

However, the former Hartlepool United man was left disappointed at the full time whistle, following James Dunne's added time winner in the 1-0 defeat to Stevenage.

"I was pleased with how the coming straight back into the side went but the result wasn't the one I wanted to come back with," he said.

"I didn't think we were in any danger of losing the game but, at the same time, I didn't think we were going to win it.

"I thought it was just going to be a 0-0 draw but they've killed us with a sucker punch at the end.

"The lads are gutted, because it's a sour and cruel way to end the game for us.

"We planned to take three points and build up with confidence for the Liverpool game and then build on that for Rotherham next week.

"It's disappointing but we've got a game around the corner now with Liverpool and what better place to put on a fightback for the fans?"
