The Team To Beat

14 September 2012

Captain expecting teams to raise their game against Notts...

Every team will be out to take down the Magpies, according to skipper Neal Bishop.

Notts head into this weekend’s clash with Oldham Athletic as npower League 1 leaders.

Bishop feels that as long as County are setting the pace, their opponents will be determined to prove a point.

“If you’re top of any league, there’s always somebody who wants to knock you off your perch,” the midfielder told Magpie Player.

“Speaking individually, whenever we’ve played top teams you look at them and think ‘we’re better than them’ or show them that we can be up there as well.

“The gaffer mentioned it straight after the game on Saturday that we’re up there and teams are going to want to shoot us down.

“It’s a different test for us and a new challenge, and it’s one that we’ve got to rise to.

“I’m confident that we’ll be prepared and match any challenge that’s put in front of us.”

Bishop has noticed plenty of similarities in the dressing room to the squad that won the League 2 championship in 2009.10.

He continued: “I think we started really well that season as well and I think it’s important to any successful season that you hit the ground running.

“The important thing is to keep up that momentum, because momentum’s a big thing in football and when you get it, if you keep that ball rolling it’s a great thing.

“The fans start believing and more and more start coming to games, and you get that feel-good factor, not only around the club but in the dressing room as well.

“It all snowballs into a big, big effect so, yes, it’s all good at the minute and it was a big thing after getting beat at home to Walsall.

“Strong teams and strong dressing rooms respond well and that’s what we did.”
