No Friends At Kick-Off

Defender wants three points against his former club...

Carl Regan is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces this evening but his number one priority is three points.

Regan spent the 2008.09 campaign with tonight’s opponents, Milton Keynes Dons, and almost helped them to achieve promotion to the Championship.

The defender made 31 appearances that term, helping the Dons to reach the League 1 Play-Off final, where they were defeated on penalties by Scunthorpe United.

Regan arrived at Meadow Lane in the summer, following a successful trial, and made his first league start of the season in the weekend’s 2-2 draw with Oldham Athletic.

With the Magpies positioned second in the table, the former Don wants to keep up the momentum with another positive result.

“I was at MK Dons about three years ago now and I’ll enjoy going back there and seeing some old friends,” he told Magpie Player.

“It is a great club but hopefully we’ll turn them over.

“I think it’ll be a good football game, as both teams like to play nice football.

“The pitch is very big so it’ll suit both teams but we just need to keep it tight at the back, bide our time and hopefully nick something.”

On Saturday, Regan featured at left-back, after Alan Sheehan had been ruled out of the Latics fixture due to a hamstring injury.

Although it is not his regular position, the defender is happy all too happy to carry out the role.

“I’ve played there earlier on in my career so I don’t mind playing there,” he said.

“Obviously my favourite position is right-back but I’m happy to do a job for the team and the manager when need be.

“Wherever you are on the pitch, you’ve just got to do a job for the team and do your best, so if it means playing left-back for the short-term I’ll do the best I can.

“It is a different approach and sometimes you can get your bearings a bit wrong but once you’ve played there for a couple of games in a row you get used to it.”
