Confident In Each Other

Defender confident of more clean sheets as defence continues to gel...

The defensive unit is growing in confidence with every fixture, says centre-back Dean Leacock.

In the league this term, Notts have fielded a settled back five, consisting of goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski, full-backs Alan Sheehan and Julian Kelly, and centre-backs Leacock and Gary Liddle.

Their performances have helped Notts to gain nine points from the opening four fixtures, conceding only two goals in the process.

Leacock has been impressed by the rearguard and feels that the development of such relationships on the pitch can only help the team to achieve success.

He told Magpie Player: “Obviously the injury to Manny [Smith] left a gap open, and the gaffer’s picked Lidds to come in and he’s done a great job.

“He’s possibly been our best player up to now and long may that continue, because he’s been putting in great performances.

“Sheehan has done brilliant and so have Kells and the keeper so we’re all very confident at the moment in each other.

“That’s a very good thing and we’ve got a nice little bond at the club.

“Hopefully that can continue and we can keep climbing the table and enjoying our football.”

Notts triumphed over Bury at the weekend, thanks to goals from Lee Hughes and Alan Judge.

Leacock was pleased with the way the entire team battled to gain a clean sheet and three points that lifted Notts to third in npower League 1.

“As a whole we defended well, it wasn’t just the centre-halves, the back four and the keeper,” he continued.

“As a defender we always want clean sheets and we were lucky enough to get one at the weekend.

“We can be pleased with the clean sheet and be very grateful of the strikers we’ve got here, because on the counter attack we looked extremely dangerous.”

Notts are next in league action on Saturday afternoon, when Shrewsbury Town visit Meadow Lane.

The fixture is a Family Fun Day, with lots of activities kicking off at 1pm.

Fans can also take up a number of ticket offers including Kids For A Quid and Family Discounts.
