Youth team get off to great start in cup competition...

Notts County youth team picked up their first win of the campaign this afternoon with a 1-0 triumph over local rivals Mansfield Town in the Midlands Youth Cup.

The result puts the young Magpies in a strong position to win their group, which also consists of Grimsby Town.

The County youth team have been unlucky on countless occasions this term and it looked set to be the same old story due to the Stags’ stopper producing multiple saves to keep them at bay.

However, as the full time whistle loomed, Kameron Campbell latched onto a low Kyle Dixon through-ball to fire home the decisive goal from the edge of the box.

Youth team coach Brett Adams was pleased with his side’s dominant showing at the One Call Stadium and felt that the result was fully deserved.

He told the official site: “We set a high tempo from the first minute and played some great football at times, with good rotations and passing through the midfield.

“We forced two or three very good saves from their keeper and hit the woodwork, and then we started in the same manner after the break, but the goalkeeper made some more top saves and we hit the post.

“We just thought it was going to be one of those games but we got the goal and we’re delighted with the win.

“We won’t get carried away because we need to be putting on quality performances week in, week out.

“Still, we’re pleased with the clean sheet, because it’s given us the foundation we needed to get the win and that’s something we need to keep up.”
