West Has Faith In 4-3-3

26 October 2012

Formation can bring wins at Meadow Lane, says coach...

Colin West believes that the Magpies can achieve success with 4-3-3 - both home and away.

There have been calls for Notts to adapt to 4-4-2 at Meadow Lane, following a run of four league games without a win on home soil.

However, the current formation has been pivotal in Notts becoming an offensive force this term, with 26 goals scored - the second highest in npower League 1.

West has every faith that by sticking with the system County will begin clocking up points again on their own patch sooner rather than later.

He told Magpie Player: “It’s been working for us home and away really, we don’t really change too much in terms of the shape of the team.

“You can tell that it works away from home and I think it’s how people perceive it, because when we’re pushing forward we play with three up front really.

“Just because we’ve got one main striker, people identify us as having one up front, which is not the case.

“I think we’ve got to keep the belief in what we’re doing, we’re creating chances and getting more balls into the box.

“The ratio of getting balls into the key areas is getting better as the games are going on, so we’re just trying to advance the midfield players a bit further forward.”

Notts face Doncaster Rovers at Meadow Lane on Saturday - a 3pm kick-off.

West is encouraging the fans to get right behind the team, because he feels that a win on home turf is not far away.

“I’d like to think that they’ll stick with us, like they have been doing, and not get too disappointed if we don’t score in the first 15-20 minutes," he continued.

“We all like to score early, it’s just sometimes the opposition makes it a little bit more difficult.

“In a way, it’s good for our lads that people are now changing their game to come and play us.

“Before, they might have just been coming with their plan to see what they’re going to do but now they’re looking at what we’re doing and trying to counter, and it’s a bit of a compliment to our lads really.”
