Notts County Football Club, The Football League and its Official Charity Partner for the 2012.13 season, Prostate Cancer UK, are asking supporters to grow a moustache in support of Movember (the month formerly known as November), the moustache growing charity event.
Each season, Movember raises awareness and millions of pounds for men’s health with Prostate Cancer UK being Movember’s prime beneficiary partner in the UK.
With the support of its 72 clubs, The Football League and Prostate Cancer UK are aiming to raise both money and awareness of prostate cancer and promote a positive message for men’s health.
One in nine men will develop prostate cancer at some stage in their life and every hour someone dies from the disease.
Fans of each of the 72 Football League clubs are being encouraged to sign up to play their part in their club’s own Movember ‘team’, with a challenge to see which set of supporters can sign-up the most fans and raise the most money.
Last season fans from across professional football raised more than £50,000 and the challenge is on to smash that figure.
Notts players Alan Sheehan, Manny Smith and Joss Labadie are taking part in Movember this year, as part of team Notts County Football Club.
Sheehan said: “A few of us thought it would be a good laugh to grow a moustache this month, but it’s also good to raise money for our official charity.
“We hope that fans will get on board and help us to raise money throughout November.
“It’s for a good cause and it should be fun to see how our facial hair develops over the month.”
