Magpies Finding Their Wings

16 October 2012

Jeff loving the service from out wide…

Notts County’s exciting wingers can be key to a successful season, according to Jeff Hughes.

Saturday’s 4-0 win against Carlisle United saw Notts make great use of the wide areas, with the likes of Alan Judge, Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Francois Zoko wreaking havoc in the final third.

Hughes was able to take advantage of his teammates' success on the wings by latching on to one of Judge's crosses to nod home the Magpies' opener at Brunton Park.

The midfielder, who netted 17 goals last term, is confident of scoring plenty more this season if the squad’s widemen can continue to deliver the goods.

“If we play the way we did on Saturday, home or away, I think we’ll pick up results,” the midfielder told Magpie Player.

“You’ve got Judgey one-on-one out wide coming in on his right foot, you’ve got Jamal out there and Zokes getting the balls in early.

“Teams are going to find that hard and you know if you get the ball to their feet, nine times out of 10 they’re getting crosses in.

“I can get in the box, Bish can get in the box and I think it gives us a bit more going forward.

“It gives you that little bit extra when you know that the ball’s coming in and knowing that you’ve got a chance of scoring.”

The Magpies are looking to build on the weekend's win on Wednesday night, when they face Sheffield United in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. For full ticket information, click here.
