Loan Watch: Great Week For Mitchell

15 October 2012

Liam Mitchell enjoyed an impressive week for Mansfield Town by keeping back-to-back clean sheets.

The goalkeeper, 20, made his debut for the Stags in midweek against Lincoln City and helped them to earn a point in a 0-0 scoreline.

On Saturday, Mitchell then shut out Forest Green to help Paul Cox’s side claim a 1-0 victory.

“He’s a quality goalkeeper and he’s going to be an outstanding goalkeeper when he matures,” said Cox in an interview with mansfieldtown.net

“We’re glad we’ve got him, he’s providing good competition for Redders (Shane Redmond) and Maz (Alan Marriott) now.”

Mitchell has been enjoying his time at the One Call Stadium, which started at the back end of September, when he agreed an initial one-month loan deal.

“It’s been good and I’m getting to know the boys now,” he told mansfieldtown.net.

“I’m starting to play my part in the games and I’ll go on from there.

“I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing in training and being myself – to save the ball, that’s my job.”

Our other player out on loan, Krystian Pearce, did not enjoy such a good week with npower League 2 strugglers Barnet, who were knocked out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night by Leyton Orient and beaten 4-1 by Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
