Leonard: A Missed Opportunity

25 October 2012

Youth team defeated by Lincoln in front of first team manager...

Head of youth Mick Leonard saw Wednesday night’s FA Youth Cup game as a missed opportunity for a lot of youth team players.

The young Magpies were defeated 3-2 by their Lincoln City counterparts on a disappointing evening at Sincil Bank.

First team manager Keith Curle, his coaching staff and chief executive Jim Rodwell were in attendance on the night but Notts did not get going until the second period.

“The manager and the chief exec was here and it was a great chance for the boys to show why they should be offered a contract,” said Leonard.

“When you put the Notts shirt on there should be that desire and that effort and sadly that lacked in the first half.

“In the end, I felt we were a little bit unlucky not to take it into extra time.

“We started very slowly and the tempo wasn’t produced in the first half.

“I felt there was a lack of movement and we didn’t get it down and pass it like we want to.

“But in the second half I thought we were the better team, but the third goal was very sloppy and it killed us.

“It wasn’t to be and well done to the Lincoln boys.”
