Ladies Respond With Win

29 October 2012

Female Magpies put seven past Retford…

Notts County Ladies bounced back from last weekend’s loss to Lincoln Ladies with a convincing win against Retford United.

An impressive start to the match saw the Magpies take the lead through Courtney Walters, who coolly slotted home from the penalty spot.

Walters was on the mark again to make it 2-0 inside the 10th minute with a neat finish from Alex Francis’ delightful through ball.

On 40, Walters completed her hat-trick, when she capitalised on a save from Anna Horton’s initial shot.

Notts made it 4-0 ahead of the interval, following a Jasmin Bear corner that allowed Cath Eyley to find the net with a header.

Retford resorted to defensive tactics after the break and were able to pull a goal back on the counter attack.

However, County’s Alex Johnson restored the four-goal deficit with a powerful drive inside the near-post.

It was 6-1 shortly after later when a lofted pass enabled Walters to add her fourth.

Alex Francis then completed the scoring by firing home, following a superb free-kick delivery.

The Magpies are away at Ruddington in the League Cup at the weekend, where they will look to build on the 7-1 victory.
