Geoff Pike Returns To Meadow Lane

8 October 2012

Former player back at the Lane for Lifeline Gala...

Geoff Pike, one of the biggest names in the litany of post-war Magpies' players, is returning to Meadow Lane as a special guest at the Lifeline Gala Night on Tuesday 16 October.

He had a distinguished career with West Ham United before joining Notts in the summer of 1987 as manager John Barnwell made a host of high profile signings which also included Andy Gray, Garry Birtles, Paul Hart and Gary Mills.

Pike had made nearly 400 first team appearances for the Hammers with whom he gained an FA Cup winner's medal after their 1-0 win over Arsenal in 1980.

Barnwell handed him the captaincy and soon proved he would lead by example.

He scored twice on his debut, a thrilling 4-4 home draw against Wigan and later notched the only hat-trick of his career in the 5-2 rout of Southend United.

Pike's first season saw Notts finishing fourth and just missing out on promotion.

He finished here with 20 goals from midfield in 91 League and Cup appearances.

Geoff now works at Wembley with the FA and it will be a real pleasure to welcome him back.
