Stewart Glad To Be Back

5 November 2012

Defender delighted to be back in action again...

Damion Stewart was thrilled to return to action in the Magpies’ 2-0 win over Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon.

Stewart had been training with the squad since coming to an agreement with former club Bristol City over the termination of his contract.

The powerful centre-back’s official switch to Meadow Lane had been delayed by work permit issues but he was finally able to sign on the dotted line on Friday afternoon.

The Jamaican international enjoyed a successful loan spell with the club at the back end of last season and he has been determined to team up with Keith Curle’s squad on a permanent basis.

He told Magpie Player: “From the start I wanted to come here.

“I was here last year and I was comfortable so this is where I wanted to be from the get go.

“As soon as I got the chance, I came here and trained and waited for it to come through.

“It has been frustrating but time is the master and finally it’s gone through, so I’m glad to be playing now.

“The players that the gaffer has brought in during the summer have been doing amazing, so I’m looking forward to helping them go forward.”

He added: “From the position that the team’s in now, you can see that we can move forward.

“We just need to tighten up at the back and hopefully I can help with that.”
