Having missed the best part of two months through injury and suspension, the left-back is back in the team but knows he has to be at his best if he is to remain there.
He told #themag: “There’s going to be serious competition for places, because in every position we’ve got at least one or two that can fill in there.
"It’s going to be good and hopefully it will bring the best out of us.
“It’s a strong squad and we’ve got more players coming back from injury, but no matter what club you go to, there’s always going to be competition.
"We had it last year, we have it this year and there are battles for places all over the pitch.
“It’s especially the case in my position, when there’s one person doing well, you can’t do anything.”
